Dance Style
A smooth, sensual partner dance from Angola and Cape Verde.
Kizomba originated in Angola in the late 1970s and early 1980s, blending traditional Angolan semba with electronic instrumentation from Caribbean zouk music. The word 'kizomba' means 'party' in Kimbundu.
Kizomba is characterised by a close embrace, gentle leading, and slow, smooth movements. The connection between partners is intimate and grounded, with emphasis on musicality and feeling the rhythm rather than complex patterns.
Our Kizomba offerings connect naturally with our Brazilian Zouk program. Many Zouk tracks have Kizomba rhythms, and the body awareness you develop in Zouk translates beautifully to Kizomba.
