Dance Style
From heartbreak to worldwide sensation — a romantic partner dance from the Dominican Republic.
Bachata originated in the 1960s throughout the countryside of the Dominican Republic. The music was first developed with a heavy guitar emphasis and heartrending love stories as its basis. However, it grew primarily within bars and brothels, and this led to Bachata being held back for literally decades.
The truest form danced according to the original style. Does not require many turn patterns; it incorporates free-style movements with great footwork and a bouncy feel.
The newest form, heavily influenced by Tango and Bolero among other Latin dance forms. Modern moves on a heavier musical bed and put big emphasis on body movement.
The pure form danced casually with our Brazilian Zouk program. Strong emphasis on tap patterns and hips, while keeping that infectious samba groove.
